Watch the Video Mediavolution Produced with Kat Toussaint of Around Reston Publications
On September 25, 2015, Around Reston hosted a Candlelight Vigil in honor of Robert E. Simon, founder of Reston. Bob Simon quietly passed away in his home on Lake Anne, September 21 at 101 years old.
Over 500 people came to this grassroots vigil to pay their respects for a great man and to share their stories about the influence Bob Simon had on their lives. Many had moved to Reston in the early 1960’s when Reston was formed because it was a community that welcomed diversity. Others who came to the vigil were born and raised in Reston, and were now raising their own families here. Others were relatively new to Reston and had moved here because Bob Simon’s dream of a community where one could Live, Work, Play was a dream they too wanted to live.
There was one consistent theme throughout the evening, and that was one of thankfulness, thankfulness to Bob Simon for his vision in creating A Place Called Reston.
